Digital Provenance Record

Every Item Has a History. Now It Has Proof.

A Digital Provenance Record is the complete, verifiable chain of identity, evidence, ownership and transfers for a physical item — from first registration to the present moment.

What it is

Provenance Is Not a Document. It Is a Chain.

Traditional provenance is a collection of paper documents — receipts, certificates, appraisals — that can be lost, forged, or separated from the item they describe. Each document is an island.

A Digital Provenance Record is different. It is a single, persistent, cryptographically linked chain that connects every fact about an item — what it is, who has owned it, what evidence exists, and every transfer event — into one verifiable record that cannot be broken or falsified.

It lives inside the item's Ownership Passport and grows with every event. It is not issued once and forgotten. It is a living record.

The provenance chain

Seven Layers. One Unbreakable Record.

A Digital Provenance Record is built from seven linked layers. Each layer depends on the one before it. Remove any layer and the chain breaks — which is how you know it is genuine.

01

Item Identity

The permanent, immutable record of what the item is. Make, model, category, serial number, unique identifiers. Set at first registration and cryptographically sealed. This is the anchor of the entire chain — every subsequent layer references it.

Cannot be altered after registration. Any attempt to change item identity invalidates the entire chain.
02

Evidence

All supporting documentation attached to the item — purchase receipts, photographs, appraisal reports, insurance documents, condition reports, service records. Each piece of evidence is cryptographically hashed and linked to the certificate that was current at the time of upload.

Evidence is append-only. It cannot be removed. Each item is linked to a specific point in the ownership timeline.
03

Ownership

The current owner of record, established by the most recent Digital Ownership Certificate. Ownership is not a claim — it is a cryptographically signed attestation, issued at the moment of registration or transfer, that cannot be backdated or fabricated.

Ownership is always derived from the certificate chain. There is no way to assert ownership without a valid certificate.
04

Transfers

Every ownership transfer recorded atomically — the outgoing owner, the incoming owner, the date, and the agreed transfer price where disclosed. Transfers are initiated by the current owner and accepted by the new owner. Neither party can complete a transfer unilaterally.

Transfers are atomic. They either complete fully or do not happen. There is no partial transfer state.
05

History

The complete, ordered timeline of every ownership period — who owned the item, from when, to when, and under what circumstances. History is derived from the certificate chain and cannot be rewritten. Every previous owner is permanently recorded.

History is append-only and chronologically ordered. It cannot be selectively edited or redacted.
06

Verification

Every independent verification event — when a buyer, insurer, dealer, or auction house scanned the QR code and confirmed the record. Verification events are timestamped and logged permanently. They cannot be fabricated after the fact.

Verification events are public and permanent. They provide third-party confirmation that the record was checked at a specific moment.
07

Integrity

The cryptographic signature that ties the entire chain together. Every layer is hashed. The hashes are chained. Any modification to any layer — at any point in history — breaks the integrity check and is immediately detectable.

Integrity is verified automatically on every access. A broken integrity check means the record has been tampered with.

How it works

Built Automatically. Verified Instantly.

Step 1

Register the item

Enter the item details — make, model, serial number, category. Upload your purchase receipt and photos. The Provenance Record is created automatically. The first certificate is issued and signed.

Step 2

Add evidence over time

Upload additional evidence as it accumulates — appraisals, service records, condition reports. Each piece is cryptographically linked to the current certificate and permanently appended to the record.

Step 3

Transfer ownership

When you sell or transfer the item, initiate a transfer in the app. The buyer accepts. The Provenance Record is updated atomically — the new owner is recorded, the transfer is appended, and a new certificate is issued.

Step 4

Anyone can verify

The QR code on the item links directly to the full Provenance Record. Any buyer, insurer, dealer, or auction house can verify the complete chain instantly — no account needed, no fee.

Why it matters

What Provenance Actually Changes

Resale with confidence

A buyer who can verify the complete provenance chain pays more and decides faster. Provenance eliminates the uncertainty that suppresses secondary market prices.

Insurance without dispute

An insurer who can independently verify item identity, ownership, and condition at the time of loss has no grounds for dispute. Claims are faster and fairer.

Fraud made impossible

A stolen item cannot be given a clean provenance record. The chain follows the item, not the thief. Any attempt to register a stolen item creates a conflict that is immediately detectable.

Auction and dealer trust

Auction houses and dealers can verify provenance independently, without relying on the seller's word or paper documents that may be incomplete or forged.

Estate and inheritance clarity

Beneficiaries receive verified provenance alongside the physical item. No disputes about what was owned, when, or by whom.

Value that compounds over time

Provenance increases in value as the chain grows longer. An item with a 20-year verified provenance record is worth more than the same item with a 2-year record.

Use cases

Where Provenance Records Are Used

Watches

Serial number, service history, box and papers documentation, ownership timeline. Verified provenance is the single biggest driver of resale value in the watch market.

Jewellery

Gemstone certificates, appraisal reports, hallmarking records, ownership history. Provenance protects against substitution and establishes authenticity for insurance and resale.

Luxury handbags

Authentication records, condition reports, purchase receipts, ownership chain. The secondary market for luxury bags is driven by provenance — verified records command significant premiums.

Art and collectibles

Exhibition history, appraisal records, ownership chain, condition reports. Provenance is the foundation of art market value — and the primary defence against forgery.

Vehicles

Service history, MOT records, ownership timeline, accident history. A verified provenance record replaces the fragmented paper trail that currently makes used vehicle purchases uncertain.

Electronics

Serial number verification, purchase records, ownership history. Provenance protects against counterfeit goods and establishes legitimate ownership for warranty and insurance purposes.
